Wildflowers Scissors Safe

Skill Level: All
Minimum 6; Maximum 30 students

Class Cost: $110

Saturday, September 21, 2019, 1:30p - 3:30p

Most unusual and creative scissors safe for your treasured 3.5" and 4" jeweled delights. This class kit includes our signature English Hare scissors that fits perfectly into this creation. You can certainly choose your favorite from your collection to hold the treasure.

My husband is always poking through my assemblage area and design/charting studio to see what I'm working on and match a piece of his wooden creations to one of my designs. I really think Dennis nailed it out of the park with this one; such a unique scissors safe handcrafted from a beautiful WildCherry hardwood coveted from his homestead cherry orchards in picturesque Door County - Northern Wisconsin........ The beautiful peninsula in Northeast Wisconsin that juts out into the Great Lake Michigan. He and his father worked and treasured these beautiful cherry orchards, and prided in salvaging nearly a barn full of this gorgeous wood grained WildCherry. I love to walk into his shop when he is planing some of this cherry wood. The aroma is so overwhelming you wished you had a handful of these tart Door County cherries to pop into your mouth.

We both continue in different faculties to take part each summer to continue the Sorenson Cherry harvest/tradition. I didn't say I was climbing the trees to pick the cherries and I guess it doesn't really matter that I'm the baker, and provide all the tart cherry tortes for the crew each year; it just wouldn't be the same without the delicious and delightful tart cherry torte that has been handed down from generations from great Grandma Sorenson.  😊 July is my favorite month 🍒 .

I know that you will appreciate the unique character of this WildCherry wood. Dennis has taken great pride to sand and hand smooth the entire finish with absolutely no finishing coats of ANYTHING; no chemicals just a little bit of wax in his hands and rubbed for at least an hour each. It's just the planed wood. That's all.

Once the template for the scissors safe was confirmed, I designed the basket of wildflowers to ornament the front.

Your design will be stitched on 40 count lambswool with 29 hues of DMC cotton embroidery floss. Notice the cording that surrounds the design; this is a simple twisting of the DMC floss and lightly attached in place to the wooden top.

The screw device used to attach the top to the bottom works very well to either close the safe or keep it opened. The bottom is lined with a self-adhesive felt liner.

This will be a very short class, perhaps an hour and a half.

Kit includes:

*Dennis' hand-crafted finished WildCherry  ✂️ Scissors Safe.
*40-count Lambswool linens.
*26 & 28 gauge tapestry needles.
*29 DMC flosses, individually number tagged.
*Two colored photographs
*THC signature English Hare scissors.
*Easy to read graph for Wildflowers Basket design.
*Maureen's tutorial on her unique technique of creating these extremely detailed designs 1/1 thread on linen. She will walk you through each stage of the design and erase your anxieties about stitching on 40 count linen over one. Guaranteed to grab your attention right from the beginning, when you realize how easily it is to create a simple masterpiece with this fun and unique method of stitching.

Dennis and Maureen truly are gratified to present another unique creation to you. Recently married, they are honored to blend their talents again and offer you another special needlework piece.

Please bring regular stitching supplies.
